The UK trailer for A Wrinkle in Time, based on Madeleine L’Engle’s classic novel, dives more into the backstory of our hero, Meg Murry (Storm Reid). In the book, she’s a proto-genius who started acting out after her father, played here by Chris Pine, disappeared. It isn’t until Mrs Who (Mindy Kaling), Mrs Which (Oprah Winfrey) and Mrs Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon) send Meg, her friend, and her brother Charles Wallace out on a mission to rescue her father that she realises her full potential.
DuVernay previously said she specifically wanted to make A Wrinkle in Time because it would give her the freedom to create her own worlds, and those worlds are on full display here. We get a closer look at the gorgeous, lush visuals and otherworldly creatures her film has created, and it makes me hopeful to see what else she has in store in her vision for A Wrinkle in Time.
And bonus: Charles Wallace actually talks in this trailer! I was beginning to think he was a ghost.
