Mute, Duncan Jones’s long-awaited followup to Moon, is a moody take on a futuristic Berlin. And now we can see it in motion.
Set forty years from the present, Mute follows Leo Beiler (Alexander Skarsgard), a mute bartender searching for his missing wife in the eerie underbelly of cyberpunk Berlin, haunted by black market surgeons and gangsters, including Paul Rudd in quite a mustache as Cactus Bill, and his companion Duck, played by Justin Theroux.
Our first glimpse at the film in motion is short, but it’s a tease of more to come: a full trailer is coming January 30th. And even this is enough to offer a sense of the film’s atmosphere, with neon-drenched lights and close-up shots of Jones’s offbeat characters.
Jones, the son of David Bowie, reached popular acclaim after directing the indie hit Moon. Mute, which is one of our most anticipated films of the year, will come out on Netflix February 23rd. You can watch the short teaser below.
