Goldie Vance is a comic book series from publisher Boom Studios that won over readers' hearts when it first came out last year. It's won over actresses who starred in The Office and Scandal, too, so much so that Rashida Jones and Kerry Washington are going to adapt it for film.
The movie deal was announced in Variety, where the project is described as a fusion of Nancy Drew meets Eloise. Jones will direct the film, which will be set up at Fox, with Washington producing. Both spoke to Variety:
"I'm ecstatic to be collaborating with Rashida and BOOM! Studios on telling this story. Fox is the perfect home for this project. Goldie Vance will steal your heart. She's already stolen mine!" Washington said.
"Goldie is exactly the kind of fearless, curious, and funny heroine we need right now," Jones said. "I'm so honored to partner with Kerry Washington, BOOM! Studios, and Fox to bring her world to life."
Created by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams as part of Boom's Boom Box imprint, Goldie Vance features a 16-year-old lead character whose parents are divorced. Mum works as a live mermaid in a bar downtown and Marigold/Goldie dreams of becoming the in-house detective at the hotel managed by her dad. When the current investigator gets stumped by a tricky case, he begins to mentor Goldie so she can use her curiosity and charm to help him out. The Goldie Vance comics are fun and energetic romps that should make for great source material for a PG-13 film. No word yet on a release date.
