Ever since Warner Bros. stepped up to challenge Disney/Marvel for cinematic universe supremacy, there have been ways the DCEU has tried to set itself apart. Mostly, that had involved having a lot more neck breaking and “Martha!” shouting, but it also had to do with the lack of post-credits scenes. Well, looks like Justice League isn’t treading that high road any more, at least according to star Jason Momoa.

In an interview with BBC Radio, Momoa was asked if he would be willing to reveal that there’s something at the very, very end of Justice League. “You gotta sit through the whole thing, go through the credits,” Momoa said.
Host Steve Wright pressed Momoa to explain what exactly is waiting for fans after the credits start rolling (rumours suggest there are up to two scenes), but Momoa wouldn’t elaborate, claiming he didn’t want to spoil anything. However, once Wright started talking about waiting for the post-credits scene during a screening, Momoa quickly hopped on board and pretty much confirmed the whole damn thing.
“I’m not usually someone to stay for the credits, I got excited,” Wright said.
“I walked out,” Momoa replied. “And then everyone’s like, ‘Ooh ooh ooh’ and I had to run back in because I forgot that it was in the script.”
Even though DC has spent the past few years building a cinematic universe with films such as Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman and Wonder Woman, only one of their films has ever featured a post-credits scene: Suicide Squad, although technically its was a mid-credits sequence. This wasn’t by accident. Both Zack Snyder and Patty Jenkins have defended not adding those scenes to their films. Jenkins told the Toronto Sun in September that there were no plans to add one to Wonder Woman, mainly because she wasn’t a big believer in post-credit scenes unless the movies are extremely similar:
To me, it does not make sense to have a commercial for a completely different style of movie in the credits of another movie. One of my favourite things about the DC Universe is they were super supportive of me doing my own tone, but there’s no other movie that they have that’s of the same tone.
Snyder’s Batman v. Superman originally had a post-credits scene planned, but he told reporters last year that they removed the scene (sharing it online only a few days after the film came out) specifically because they didn’t want to copy Marvel’s style: “I kind thought like, ‘Oh, that would be a cool after-credits sequence.’ But then I was like, ‘I don’t know, can I do that?’ Because Marvel does that,” Snyder said.
In 2014, Snyder also claimed The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan told Warner Bros. that “a real movie” wouldn’t have a Marvel-style post-credits sequence, though Nolan disputes this.
Justice League comes out November 16, most likely with some kind of end-credit shenanigans. Despite what the DCEU has done in the past, this time around, it’s probably wise to stay until the credits are over.
