Out for a solo stroll alongside a gorgeous coastline, a woman pauses to take in the view at a lighthouse when she’s suddenly wrestled into the back of a car. Her ordeal gets even worse when she realises she’s been abducted into a time-travel experiment that she can’t escape from — or can she?

Olga Osorio’s reStart brings some unusual elements to its Groundhog Day tale; notably, the clifftop setting offers a stunning contrast to the dark bunker where the kidnap victim is stashed between her time-loop jaunts. The film doesn’t waste any of its brief running time trying to explain how her captors are sending her back in time, but that’s not really important. Instead, reStart becomes more about the mental effects of constantly reliving the same moment over and over, and charting the moment that the instinct to survive morphs into something much darker.
