The ink has barely dried on Netflix’s Death Note adaptation, and yet another adaptation of the iconic manga and anime is already happening. The latest iteration: a 12-hour audio drama series.
According to Anime News Network, German publisher Lübbe is adapting the Death Note anime into a 12-hour audio drama, available in both English and German. Writer and translator Jonathan Clements is writing the drama, which will be based specifically on the anime adaptation, not the manga itself.
Death Note was originally a manga that ran from 2003 to 2006, and has since gotten a ton of adaptations. These include an anime, several Japanese live-action films, a stage musical, and most recently, the American Netflix adaptation, which was criticised for being too rushed, even though it was technically an origin story.
To be honest, 12 hours still isn’t enough to properly tell Death Note‘s entire saga, but hey, it’s a start. The audio drama is set to come out in 2018.
