The Neverending Quest To Reboot The Crow Somehow Still Continues

After spending nearly 10 years in the TBD pile at Relativity Studios, the reboot of The Crow has been picked up by Sony Pictures. Does that mean we’ll ever see the damn thing get made? It certainly elevates the chances, at least a little bit.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reboot, titled The Crow Reborn, would be “a more faithful adaptation of the indie comic created by James O’Barr that was first published in 1989”. James O’Barr’s comic is about a man who comes back to life hellbent on revenge after he and his fiancée are horrifically murdered by random thugs. Alex Proyas’ stylish and grim big-screen adaptation came out in 1994, and gained eerie notoriety well before its release when star Brandon Lee, the 28-year-old son of Bruce Lee, died after he was accidentally shot on-set.

The Crow Reborn‘s shift to Sony comes after financial troubles at Relativity, where the project was most recently slated to star Jason Momoa (Aquaman), who stepped in after Luke Evans dropped out, who replaced Danny Huston. And so on. It was to have been directed by Corin Hardy (whose next film is the upcoming Conjuring spin-off The Nun). However, THR notes that the studio change will likely mean a whole new team will come aboard — so you can look forward to reading a new crop of updates while wondering, once again, why this reboot even needs to happen in the first place.
