This morning, writer and producer Damon Lindelof posted this image on his Instagram. The caption read, “Day One.” And if you know comics, the connection is obvious. Lindelof has begun work on the Watchmen TV series.
The statue in the picture is from issue eight of the original comics, written by Alan Moore and drawn by Dave Gibbons. It’s the statue given to Hollis Mason, the first Nite Owl, when he retired, and it’s on the cover of the issue.
It tells us literally nothing about the show other than that it’s happening. When first we heard about the show earlier this winter, we knew Lindelof was possibly doing it for HBO but that was about it. We even spoke to Gibbons at Comic-Con and he was unaware of any development at the time. Obviously, that has changed if work has begun.
Hopefully there will be some new information soon, such as who is on Lindelof’s writing team and eventually some casting. It’s time to start gearing up for another round with the Watchmen.
