Pretty much since Riverdale entered production, there have been hints and teases that the show could be used to bring another beloved Archie Comics character back to TV, in the form of the spellbinding Sabrina the Teenage Witch. But now it’s official: Sabrina’s getting her own TV show instead.

Announced today in a press release by the CW and Archie Comics, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be a dark horror show designed to serve as a companion series to Riverdale, and is being planned for the 2018-2019 TV season.
As the title implies, the show, written by Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and directed by Lee Toland Krieger, will be heavily inspired by Archie’s stunning, grim re-imagining of Sabrina in the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic, which paints a much darker and messed-up life for the young witch than the cult classic TV series ever could.
