The second film in Sony’s No-Spider-Man Movie Universe now has a release date. Silver and Black, the Silver Sable/Black Cat superhero movie directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, will be released in the US 8 February 2019.

That’s just about four months after Venom, starring Tom Hardy and directed by Ruben Fleischer, hits theatres. Venom is the first film in this still-untitled Marvel Universe Sony is starting to create that centres on Spider-Man villains, but doesn’t contain Spider-Man. Riz Ahmed is also rumoured to be up for a role in Venom, and it’s expected to connect with this one.
Silver and Black was written by Chris Yost (Thor: The Dark World) and though plot details are scarce, it will obviously be about some mix of the two popular Spider-man foes, one of which is a mercenary, the other a skilled burglar.
And if you think the two non-Spider-Man movies are coming out very close together, you haven’t seen anything yet. In between Venom and Silver and Black, Fox will release X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Sony has the unrelated animated Spider-Man movie, and Warner Bros. will release Aquaman. That’s a lot of superhero films in a very short window. Especially considering Captain Marvel follows one month later, and Avengers 4 comes out two months after that.
Now that there’s a release date, odds are casting will be announced fairly soon.
