Luke Cage Season 2 Adds Two Retro Comic Book Supervillains

Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen

According to The Wrap, Lionsgate is in “advanced negotiations” to distribute the film.

The Batman

Speaking with Yahoo! Movies, Matt Reeves discussed how the movie will style itself in the manner of Christopher Nolan’s approach to comic book superhero material, with Reeves’ own perspective being a focal point:

What I love that [Nolan] did was that he took the genre seriously. What studios are willing to make at the moment is a very, very narrow band of films. What I discovered is that this genre has the potential to be about something more. You can use the metaphors of the genre to talk about [a lot]. I think the other thing that I really admire in what [Nolan] did was knowing what it is to make a big studio film, which often can fall into that sense of committee filmmaking where there’s an anonymity to the point of view of the film. What I admire in what [Nolan] does is that, despite being a filmmaker in an enormous system, his perspective comes through. That to me was very exciting, it’s always exciting when you see a film of his because of that. That’s what I feel like I’ve been trying to do, it’s trying to allow a perspective to come through despite the fact that we’re in this very large studio movie world.

Frozen 2

Jonathan Groff “thinks he got an email” about recording his dialogue soon, in the most crucial update about Frozen 2 you’ll ever read:

I think I just got an email yesterday where I’m about to go into the recording studio in a couple of weeks, or maybe a month? They’re about to really get into the thick of recording it, which I’m excited about. I don’t know anything about it yet other than I’m about to start recording my section of it.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

On Twitter, James Gunn revealed the cocoon from the first film seen in the Collector’s lair is “likely a primitive version of the Sovereign cocoons” and not actually Adam Warlock’s, as seen at the end of the second film.

Thor: Ragnarok

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the production is heading back to Atlanta, Georgia on July 12 and July 19 for reshoots. The article states they’re looking for tall, “very physically fit”, “Caucasian-looking men” for extras.

Caucasian-looking men who are over 18 and between 5’10” and 6’1″ are sought. You must be very physically fit, with muscular and defined arms. (Subject: FIT)

Death Note

Adam Wingard spoke to IGN about to the tribulations of localising Death Note for the US.

In the early stages of the film I was rereading all of the manga, really just looking at how does any of this translate to the United States. Ultimately, Death Note is such a Japanese thing. You can’t just say let’s port this over and it’s going to all add up. They’re two different worlds completely. Ultimately, whenever I say it’s about America, I’m looking at it like, what are the main kind of core issues going on in America. What are the things that people chalk up to conspiracy theories? What kind of weird underground programs does the government have? How do those work in the world of Death Note?

It’s one of those things where the harder I tried to stay 100 per cent true to the source material, the more it just kind of fell apart. You’re in a different country, you’re in a different kind of environment, and you’re trying to also summarize a sprawling series into a two-hour-long film. For me, it became about what do these themes mean to modern day America, and how does that affect how we tell the story. Ultimately, the cat and mouse chase between Light and L, the themes of good, evil, and what’s in between the grey area. Those are the core things of Death Note, and that’s really what we went for.

Deadpool 2

Some new pictures from filming finally have Deadpool in his full costume.

Atomic Blonde

In the latest clip, Charlize Theron cracks a bottle over James McAvoy’s head before repeatedly punching him in the ribs, something McAvoy has described as “a privilege and an honour” in the past.

Luke Cage

Mustafa Shakir and Gabrielle Denis have joined the cast as John “Bushmaster” McIver and Tilda “Nightshade” Johnson, respectively. In the comics, Bushmaster was a super-strong crime boss who also played a prominent role in a Power Man story that involved him blackmailing Luke with evidence that could exonerate Luke from crimes he’d been framed for.

Meanwhile Nightshade was a supersmart scientist, who has done everything from help breed an army of obedient werewolves, to fight Captain America, to battle Luke Cage and Iron Fist in Harlem with an army of protection racket robots, a storyline we’re desperate to see in Luke Cage season 2 already. It’s also interesting to note that Nabiyah Be recently announced she would also be playing Nightshade in Black Panther, so feel free to make your “it’s all connected” jokes right now.

Doctor Who

The Mirror reports Jenna Coleman will return for the Christmas special to “send off” Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, as tradition now demands for Doctor Who regenerations.

Also, Stephen Moffat and Peter Capaldi discuss The Doctor’s refusal to regenerate in the season finale in a new featurette.

Game of Thrones

Sophie Turner recently spoke to Time Magazine about Sansa’s will-she-or-won’t-she quest for revenge.

I do wonder if it’d be kind of impossible for this world and all of these people who she’s surrounded herself with, of course that would rub off on her. And she’d be learning things from them and since the age of 13 she hasn’t been with her family and had those Stark morals reiterated to her on a daily basis. She’s had to do that herself and over this period of five years she’s been away from her family, she will have one way or another been swept up in this world of betrayal and revenge. I do wonder if she’ll falter a little. She’s spent so long trying to survive and see her family again — it’s the only thing that’s kept her going and motivated, when so many times, she could have given up. So I think she may change a little, but at the end of the day, I think her heart is still good. The way she deals with her problems and her enemies may be different from how she would have dealt with them in the day when she was 13 or so.
