X-Men: Dark Phoneix

After yesterday’s announcement of the new (first-time) director and the returning cast, Omega Underground also reports the film will be set in 1991.

This makes oodles of sense. Besides the many rumours that placed the film in the ’90s and the fact the franchise has moved forward a decade every time since First Class, 1991 was a special year for the X-Men, which saw the comic relaunched with Jim Lee’s iconic suit designs:

And, of course, there was this moment at the end of Apocalypse:

So 1991 feels X-temely right. In related news, Bryan Singer has happily passed the keys to the X-Mansion over to incoming director, Simon Kinberg.

Duke Nukem & Borderlands

Jumping on the shared universe bandwagon, Gearbox Software has given an update on the interconnected film adaptations of two of their most popular game franchises.

We’ve been developing scripts and the strategy that we’re on right now is, that it’s obviously all in the Borderlands universe, but rather than retell the stories that were in the game, we’ll create new stories so the films will have their own film canon. We’ll use all the characters and scenarios, it’s similar to what Marvel is doing. You can’t read any particular film plot in a comic book but there’s a lot of the characters, themes, and, in fact, some of the situations are represented. […]

We’re working on [Duke Nukem]! I can’t announce it but it’s blown my mind, there’s been a lot of production companies that have come at us. We’re putting together a deal right now with a major motion picture studio; I’ll tell you off the record if you want to know. It’s the exact right people that should be doing a Duke Nukem film and we’ll see what happens. It’s unbelievable, I think that’s very likely to be a thing.

Star Trek: Discovery

Speaking with Collider, Alex Kurtzman stated the new series will “blur the line” between film and television.

Look, here’s the other thing that’s happening, and you know this to be true. The line between film and television is utterly blurred. Not just at a storytelling level, but visually now. What we’re doing on Star Trek right now, that’s not that different from what we’re doing in the movies. I think that’s what people expect when they pay for Netflix, or for HBO, or whatever they’re going to pay for. That actually makes, as a storyteller, it makes it, in the many ways, you’re not limited by oh, we could never really do that on television scope wise because now, take a look at Game of Thrones. That’s a movie.

The Originals

TV Line reports there’ll be “a significant time jump” between seasons four and five, setting the stage for a “much older” Hope in her “late teens”. TV Line also reports this new Hope could potentially “snag her own spinoff” if the character is well-received.

Game of Thrones

Don’t expect Daenarys to enjoy another burgeoning romantic subplot, according to Emilia Clarke in Style Magazine.

She is so engaged and wrapped up in leading and being the queen and ruling and fulfilling her birth right that the idea of someone coming in and sharing that title is probably something she’s not comfortable with.

The Mist

Showrunner Christian Torpe told Arrow in the Head The Mist television series won’t be a “full-blown monster show” like the movie.

I don’t want to reveal too much about what we see in there. What I can say is, it is more a show about how people react to what they see than what is actually there. It becomes boring if you know everything that’s in the show, so we were mindful of not going full-blown monster show like the movie did. I still hope we will deliver to the hardcore genre fans.

DuckTales

A new poster over at Coming Soon showcases the dragon from the “d-d-d-d-anger!” part of the opening titles.
