Video: Horror movies about rural jaunts gone horrifically awry are nothing new, but Killing Ground, from writer-director Damien Power, tightens the screws in a few key ways. One, as we noted when the first trailer dropped, is by bringing a baby into the mix. The other is by setting the movie in Australia, where nature is just way scarier than it is anywhere else.

“Nature”, in this case, looks like it means human nature. Here’s a longer description of this Hills Have Eyes–Wolf Creek blend that will have you planning your next holiday somewhere urban and/or fully indoors:
A couple’s romantic camping trip becomes a desperate fight for survival in this ultra-raw, unhinged kill ride. In need of a break from the pressures of their life in the city, Sam (Harriet Dyer) and Ian (Ian Meadows) head to a remote beach for a weekend getaway. When they come across an abandoned campsite, with no trace of its occupants, they’re concerned. When they discover a lone, traumatised child nearby, they’re scared. And when they encounter two local weirdos, they’re in for a hell of a bad time.
And here’s the chilling trailer, which suggests that Killing Ground will also play with time shifts in an interesting way:
Killing Ground opens in theatres August 24.
