Jesus H. Christ, what the hell is this thing?
It appeared in Sydney Harbour last night and freaked a bunch of people out.
People like former Gizmodo editor Luke Hopewell:
Something tells me Vivid Sydney will feature a holographic ghost ship on Sydney Harbour pic.twitter.com/IOnjKwP8Di

The projection had two parts: one ship spraying water into the air from a cannon on its bow, and one shining light onto that water to create the ghostly image.
It looks freaking amazing.
Luke is almost certainly wrong: this is probably an attempt at viral marketing for the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which is coming out in a couple of weeks and features ghost pirates and ghost ships like the last four movies in the series.
I guess that makes us the shills for covering it, but holy shit it’s cool. As big marketing stunts go, this is about as good as it gets.
