The age of drones is fast approaching and here we are thinking that getting our deliveries via tiny, rotor-equipped robots is the best we can do. How about getting one to lift you into the air so you can jump out of the sky? Way more convenient than chartering a plane, right?
According to drone shop Aerones, this clip shows the “world’s first human flight with the drone and jump at high altitude”. Whether or not this is actually the case isn’t super important.
What is cool is watching a guy — in this case, skydiver Ingus Augstkalns — get carried 330m into the air by a drone with 28 propellers so he can fall to the ground again. With a parachute of course… be hard to repeat the feat otherwise.
It’s a drone built by Aerones, as you’d expect and the company has fingers in a great many drone pies, from firefighting to “droneboarding”. I can totally see a market for extreme sports drones, though for now it’d be limited to those with both time and money to burn.
