Video: Some animals are born with natural camouflage that allows them to hide in their native habitats. But what happens when the ebb and flow of the daily tides is constantly changing your home turf? If you’re the decorator crab, you simply grab whatever sea plants you can find and use them to disguise yourself.
Like a soldier trying to sneak up on the enemy, this crab uses local undersea plant life to hide amongst it. But instead of draping itself in a densely-covered ghillie suit, the crab uses specials hairs on its body, which are curved like the plastic hooks on a strip of Velcro, to cover itself in camouflage. Those hairs ensure it remains incognito as it moves around — and underwater, it probably doesn’t have to deal with that awkward tearing sound.
