The Game Of Thrones Continues With A Stunning Graphic Novel For A Clash Of Kings

Game of Thrones has generally kept true to the original book series, but there are ways the show has strongly deviated from the source material (including most things after season five). For book fans who feel the show has gotten a few things wrong, there’s another way to “see” the series in its original glory. Dynamite Entertainment has announced a continuation of its official A Song of Ice and Fire graphic novel series with the second book, A Clash of Kings.

The graphic novel series is designed to be as close an interpretation of the original books as possible, with each page of art representing about a page of text. In a previous interview, writer Daniel Abraham said George R.R. Martin worked closely with him to make sure the comic version of A Game of Thrones, which ran from September 2011 to July 2014, did the book justice. There were a few things that had to be changed for the visual format. For example, since Daenerys is an underage girl in the books, they had to represent her sex scenes in a way that didn’t violate child pornography laws.

According to the plot synopsis, the first issue of A Clash of Kings will focus on Daenerys’ pursuit of the Iron Throne, Arya’s escape from King’s Landing, Sansa attending King Joffrey’s name-day, and Bran’s weird wolf dreams. It also looks we’ll get some time with Stannis Baratheon and Melisandre, who are gorgeously rendered in this edition. The series launches in June, and you check out some of the art below. ICv2 has a few peeks at some uncolored panels as well.
