The Creature From The Black Lagoon Remake Has Emerged From The Murky Depths With A Screenwriter

The dreaded day is here. There’s momentum building on the long-rumoured Creature From the Black Lagoon remake, the one Universal Horror title we hoped against hope would slink unbothered along the muddy bottom of the studio’s shiny new shared universe starring its classic monsters.

But it was inevitable, really, that Hollywood would once again barge into the Gill-man’s remote lair in the Amazon. Today, Deadline reports that Will Beall — appropriately enough, the scripter of Aquaman — has been hired to pen the Creature remake, which will be based on Beall’s own idea. We don’t get any more details on what his idea might be, but presumably it will offer an update on the 1954 tale of a group of scientists (including iconic bathing beauty Julie Adams) who discover you-know-who dwelling you-know-where, and chaos ensues.

If early looks at The Mummy — which is out June 8 — are any indication, the new Creature will be completely stuffed with an abundance of special effects. And it’s pretty likely the monster won’t be played by a guy in a rubber suit this time around. Here’s hoping they at least keep his iconic theme music.
