The State Of The Star Wars Galaxy Going Into The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Making Star Wars has a new report about the wider state of the galaxy going into the movie — which, really, shouldn’t be too surprising as it’s exactly the same state the galaxy was in at the end of Force Awakens, as the movie picks up exactly where its predecessor left off.

Essentially, the report says that the wider perspective of the galaxy (far beyond Rey and Luke’s encounter) will be all out chaos following the First Order’s surprise assault on the seat of the New Republic at Hosnian Prime in The Force Awakens. Now that the First Order is publicly known as a grave threat to be reckoned with, countless Republic worlds face the quandary of whether to submit or resist Snoke’s inevitable dominance over the galaxy — but now that the threat is known, Leia’s resistance is being seen as a potential saviour in the event of all-out war.

Long, long ago, we heard rumours that there would be some internal New Republic conflict in the movie surrounding Laura Dern’s character, who disagrees with Poe and Leia about what shape the Resistance should take as the de facto opposition to the First Order — which sort of fits into this new report. But like we said, nothing too surprising given what we saw in the last movie.

Suicide Squad 2

During the Oscars’ red carpet pre-show, Mel Gibson confirmed to Entertainment Tonight he’s in active talks to direct the sequel to Suicide Squad — but nothing more than that yet.

I don’t know. I just met some guys about story points. It’s not a done deal or anything. But it’s just fun to shoot the bull when it comes to stories. And if we can elevate any kind of concept it’s good. We’ll see.

Green Lantern Corps

Likewise, Trevante Rhodes spoke to MTV about the possibility of him playing John Stewart.

That is something that’s really enticing, but more so because it puts my face in front of more people, who will want to [then] come and see a movie, like Moonlight, that I really care about.

Tomorrow and Tomorrow

Matt Ross is directing an adaptation of the Tom Sweterlisch novel, which concerns a murder investigation inside a virtual reconstruction of Pittsburgh after the apocalypse. [/Film]

Animated Spider-Man

The Wrap reports that the still-untitled Miles Morales-led movie has brought on Alex Hirsch — best known as the creator of Disney’s brilliant cartoon series Gravity Falls — as a story contributor.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

James Gunn stated on Facebook that Adam Warlock and Darkhawk are not in the movie — they are, as we suspected, just parts of the toy line and nothing more.

I think it was not very well thought out because I’m getting questions about. ‘Is Darkhawk in the movie because of the Marvel Legends figure? Is Adam Warlock in the movie because of the Marvel Legends figures?

All you need to do is look at the packaging, you guys. On the packaging cover, it says ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘ on the figures that are from the movie and it doesn’t say Vol. 2 on the other figures. So that should tell you what’s from the movie and what’s not.

But, twist! After, on Twitter, the director then said he hadn’t confirmed anything other than the fact that the specific figures of Warlock and Darkhawk were not movie figures.

So, there’s still a slim possibility either one really is in the film. Maybe. Meanwhile, Gunn also shared a new poster for the film following the latest trailer’s debut.

Alien: Covenant

Coming Soon shared this ominous poster of the iconic face-hugger egg — or “ovomorph” if you’re so inclined.

The Belko Experiment

A red band clip has been released — meaning there are a lot of bloody squibs going off. Be careful if you’re viewing from work, and all that.

X-Men

Sean Teale, star of the freshly cancelled Syfy series Incorporated, has been cast as Marcos Diaz, AKA “Eclipse” — a brand new mutant to the X-Men franchise (which, to be clear, is not to be confused with members of the young X-men team New Mutants). Eclipse will have the power to absorb and manipulate photons. Like the New Mutant Sunspot, as if the confusing difference between a “new” Mutant” and “a New Mutant” wasn’t enough! [Deadline]

Supergirl

Mon-El’s intentions will become clear in just a few episodes, according to producer Andrew Kreisberg:

The Mon-El secrets come to light in [episode] 16, so you haven’t got much to go.

Fear the Walking Dead

AMC has released a synopsis and three new photos from the third season premiere:

As Fear the Walking Dead returns for season three, our families will be brought together in the vibrant and violent ecotone of the U.S.-Mexico border. International lines done away with following the world’s end, our characters must attempt to rebuild not only society, but family as well. Madison (Kim Dickens) has reconnected with Travis (Cliff Curtis), her apocalyptic partner, but Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) has been fractured by her murder of Andres. Madison’s son mere miles from his mother, Nick’s (Frank Dillane) first action as a leader saw Luciana (Danay Garcia) ambushed by an American militia group — the couple escaped death, but Nick no longer feels immortal. Recovering both emotionally and physically, Strand (Colman Domingo) has his sights set on harnessing the new world’s currency, and Ofelia’s (Mercedes Mason) captivity will test her ability to survive and see if she can muster the savagery of her father.
