Microsoft Surface Studio: Australian Price, Specs, And Availability

Microsoft’s new Surface Studio is designed to be a flexible workspace – Desktop Mode is for your general office tasks, then it switches to become a creative studio space, ideal for collaborative work. Here’s when you can get your hands on one, all the specs, and how much it will set you back.

The Surface Studio comes with a 28-inch PixelSense Display (which is the thinnest LCD monitor of its size), featuring 13.5 million pixels at 192 PPI. There’s True Scale (so the 12-point font on the screen is the same as on the page) and individually colour-calibrated TrueColor. There’s a 1100:1 contrast ratio and a wide color-gamut display that switches between sRGB, Vivid (P3-D65) and DCI-P3 – which Microsoft boasts delivers “more color than 99 per cent of the world’s desktop monitors”.

The switch from Desktop dowqn into to Studio Mode happens via the Zero Gravity Hinge. In Studio Mode the monitor sits at 20 degrees, ideal for a drafting table using Surface Pen, touch and Surface Dial – “just like a sheet of paper on a drafting table”.

Collaboration comes via video calls using the 1080p low-light-capable front camera and stereo 2.1 Dolby Audio Premium Speakers. There’s also a front-facing infrared camera and Windows Hello.

Under the hood there’s Quad-core 6th Generation Intel Core processors, a NVIDIA GeForce GPU with up to 4GB GDDR5 memory, and up to 2TB Rapid Hybrid Drive storage. It’s capable enough to run Siemens NX software, games and VR – including the HTC Vive. It also supports Xbox Wireless – you can connect up top four Xbox One controllers.

It is designed to work with the new Surface Dial as well as the Surface Pen.
