Tangled star Mandy Moore has killed off a popular fan theory that Frozen, Tangled, and The Little Mermaid are connected through one couple’s painful, terrible death. While the theory was already debunked by super fans, it was worth it to see the horrified look on Moore’s face.
Back in 2014, viewers noticed an Easter egg in Frozen, which showed Tangled‘s Rapunzel and Eugene attending Elsa’s coronation. While most people figured that was simply the animators having fun, like when the skinned dead body of Scar showed up in Hercules, others had a slightly more depressing interpretation. What if Rapunzel and Eugene were there out of obligation… because Elsa and Anna’s parents had died on the way to their wedding! Oh also, their sunken ship is the one Ariel visits in The Little Mermaid. Oh God… my feelings, they bleed!!
In an interview with TV Line about Tangled: Before Ever After, Moore was asked about the theory, and you can tell she was not ready for that question. The look on her face is priceless as she weighs whether her character’s happy marriage, as shown in Tangled Ever After, was responsible for the death of Elsa and Anna’s parents. But she quickly shoots it down, adding, “That’s a pretty morbid fan theory,” and I don’t blame her. Not only are the timelines way off (as shown by the costumes), but holy hell it’s Disney what’s wrong with you guys?
