We Now Know When Disney’s Avatar And Star Wars Theme Parks Will Open

Disney is embracing two major franchises in its US theme parks — and on an investor call Tuesday, the company CEO announced when each land would open.

Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that Pandora: The World of Avatar will open May 27 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida. It, of course, it based on the James Cameron series of films. He also revealed the company plans to open both its yet-to-be-named Star Wars-themed lands at Walt Disney World and Disneyland in 2019.

We already knew Pandora was going to open this winter, but we didn’t know specifically when. Now Na’vi fans can start booking their holidays.

The Star Wars window is new, though. Up until now, Iger and the company had been quiet on when specifically they hoped to open the 14-acre sections of Hollywood Studios in Orlando and Disneyland in Anaheim to the public. The chosen year will be a little over three years since ground was broken on construction, which is par for the course for these things.

It also happens that 2019 is the year Star Wars Episode IX hits theatres, meaning the parks could be fully integrated with the entire sequel trilogy by that time. Though, that movie will probably open at the end of the year and these parks would likely be in autumn or winter, so it probably wouldn’t be a fully, spoiler-filled integration.

Nevertheless, anyone who wants to visit the Star Wars Disney lands can start saving up now.
