New Ragnarok Details Hint At Dire Times Ahead For Thor

Thor: Ragnarok

The first official synopsis for the movie has been sent out to the press, confirming that Thor’s reason for being away from Asgard will be because he’s incarcerated on the other side of the universe — presumably by Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster, given that he’ll be put to fighting in gladiatorial combat against the Hulk.

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok — the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilisation — at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk!

Also interesting to note? Thor will not be wielding his trusty hammer Mjlonir when the film begins, something backed up by recent promotional art that made its way to the web. Whether or not that’s simply part of his imprisonment, or perhaps that, like in the recent comics, Thor has become “unworthy” of wielding the weapon, remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, a new behind-the-scenes photo of director Taika Waititi at work has also been released.

New Mutants

In an interview with Coming Soon, Anya Taylor-Joy may have let it slip that James McAvoy will return as Professor X for the film:

I mean, I think James is already a part of it, isn’t he?

Given her relatively unsure answer, it’s equally likely she simply meant that McAvoy is already a wider part of the X-Men movie franchise, rather than specifically New Mutants.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales

The full synopsis for the movie has also been released by Disney:

Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.” The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazer (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea — notably Jack. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Benton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitiful small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has never faced.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” also stars Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs, Golshifteh Farahani as the sea-witch Shansa, David Wenham as Scarfield, Stephen Graham as Scrum and Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa.
