Cult Of Chucky Will Bring Back The Campy Killer Doll For A Seventh Time

Cult Of Chucky Will Bring Back The Campy Killer Doll For A Seventh Time

Here’s some thrilling news to brighten the first week of 2017, specifically if you’re a fan of the ever-campier Child’s Play movie series: Chucky will return later this year in Cult of Chucky. Truly, a perfectly self-referential title for what will no doubt be an immediate cult classic.

According to a press release that dropped today, Cult of Chucky begins filming January 9, aiming straight for a Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD release in time for Halloween. So the below “trailer” doesn’t contain any glimpses at the new movie — instead, it’s a look back at some of Chucky’s memorable moments (kills and quips) over the past three decades.

As for Cult of Chucky, here’s a plot description to tempt your bloodthirst:

Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions — an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), Chucky’s now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Oscar®-nominee Jennifer Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.

The inimitable Brad Dourif, of course, returns as the voice of Chucky; Child’s Play godfather Don Mancini, who has written or co-written every film in the series, also adds Cult of Chucky to a directing resume that also includes Seed of Chucky and Curse of Chucky.
