The first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming will likely be out before the end of the month, but audiences at a Brazilian convention got an early sneak today — and it came with a surprising revelation.
According to Marvel reporter Ryan Penagos, a brief clip from Homecoming was shown at CCXP 2016 that revealed Tony Stark provides Peter Parker with a new toy.
The Spider-Man Homecoming footage was short but AWESOME. Starts from Spidey’s POV, talking with Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) 1/? #ccxp2016

There’s a case from Tony Stark with an “upgrade” for Spidey. Then we see Spidey leap off a building, open his arms, web wings! #ccxp2016 2/?

There were a few more flashes of shots, but I can’t remember. That classic underarm webbing look was just so rad. #ccxp2016 3/?

Comic Book Movie adds that the building Spider-Man jumps from is the Washington Monument, which is an interesting change since we’ve almost always seen Spider-Man only in New York.
The revelation of Stark giving Peter Parker web wings sparked a heated discussion among our staff. Of course, there is plenty of precedent for web wings in the comics. But does it belittle Peter to have Tony not only give him his suit (in Civil War), but now this upgrade to it in Homecoming? Or is it cool because this is a slightly different version of Spidey than we’ve seen in the five previous movies?
Debate away below.
Spider-Man: Homecoming opens 6 July 2017.
