Some More Familiar Faces May Be Appearing In Rogue One

Sigourney Weaver talks Avatar sequels and The Defenders. We haven’t seen the last of the Dominators in the CW/DC TV universe. Legends of Tomorrow drops a big hint about links to more obscure DC comics history. Plus, new posters for Underworld: Blood Wars and LEGO Batman, and a new teaser for Sherlock. Behold, spoilers!

Some More Familiar Faces May Be Appearing In Rogue One

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

A new interview from French TV network TF1 with Gareth Edwards saw the director answer a series of quickfire questions about potential characters and Star Wars elements that could appear in the film:

Q: Will there be Jedi?

A: Technically yes.

Q: Will there be lightsabers?

A: Darth Vader has one.

Q: Luke Skywalker?

A: No.

Q: Will we see Princess Leia?

A: I cannot answer.

Q: R2D2?

A: I cannot answer.

Usually that wouldn’t be all that much to go on (what else would he say?), but given that he gave different answers for Leia and R2 compared to Luke, there’s some intrigue — intrigue now stoked by a further report from the usually reliable Making Star Wars, who claim to have heard from product manufacturers new Rogue One items based on Princess Leia, R2-D2 and C-3PO are all in the works, which might lend some credence to a potential cameo from the characters.

Toys for movies are rarely too reliable to discern movie information from (Darth Vader infamously appeared in early waves of The Force Awakens figures, prompting wild speculation about his presence in the film, for example) but this seems like it could be a bit more than the usual speculation.

Captive State

John Goodman has joined the cast of Rupert Wyatt’s mysterious sci-fi film in an equally mysterious undisclosed role. [Variety]

Jurassic World 2

Speaking of undisclosed roles, Justice Smith has joined the sequel. [THR]

Avatar 2, 3 & 4

Sigourney Weaver hypes up the future of the Avatar universe:

In my opinion, the three scripts I’ve read so far are many times more amazing than the first one in terms of their scope. (James Cameron) did a lot of the heavy lifting in the first movie, establishing the family and the relationships and the world, and now he really gets to play.

Underworld: Blood Wars

Selene shoots some guns and puts on a nice coat in this “motion poster” for the film.

The LEGO Batman Movie

A plethora of Batman and DC characters assemble for this new one. Even the mutant leader from The Dark Knight Returns!

The Inhumans

WWE wrestler Cody Rhodes is going to “campaign hard” to take the role of the Inhuman’s silent King Black Bolt, apparently. [Bleeding Cool]

The Defenders

And if you didn’t have enough of Sigourney Weaver talking nebulously about her future roles, here she is in the same interview about her Defenders character.

I can’t say much, because they might kill me. I think everyone I work for might kill me if I tell you anything. But I have the most delicious character. She’s really smart, and she’s very in charge.

Counterpart

Ulrich Thomsen has joined the cast of Starz’s parallel dimension spy thriller. Thomsen will take over Michael Nyqvist’s role as “the hardened Director of Counterintelligence at Howard’s agency and a strange mix of philosopher and spy”. [Spoiler TV]

Supergirl

They might have got their butts kicked in the latest episode of Legends of Tomorrow, but don’t expect the big DC/CW crossover to be the last you’ll see of the Dominators on TV, according to Andrew Kreisberg:

I will say this is not the last you’ve seen on the Dominators. The Dominators will return on Supergirl later this season.

Feral

Elizabeth Banks is producing a new and mysterious series for the CW called Feral. Here’s a brief elevator pitch, courtesy of Variety:

The drama centres around 20-year-old Trident Marven, who steps out of the woods after years of isolation, unaware that she carries a secret which puts her at the center of an unfurling conspiracy.

Trident Marven is a great name.

Legends of Tomorrow

Good god, the 12th episode of season two is called “Camelot/3000” — as in the same Camelot 3000 DC comic about Arthurian heroes and villains waking up in the far future to fight aliens.

Sherlock

Finally, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman get their ankles wet in a suitable mysterious new teaser for the next season. I hope Mrs Hudson doesn’t have to pay for that water damage.
