Holy Crap, Denis Villeneuve May Actually Direct Dune After All

Director Denis Villeneuve is one step closer to getting his dream. He’s in early talks to direct Dune.

If this sounds familiar, that’s because the director of Arrival and the upcoming Blade Runner 2049 said this in an interview four months ago:

A longstanding dream of mine is to adapt “Dune,” but it’s a long process to get the rights, and I don’t think I will succeed.

Well, Legendary Pictures got those rights in November and now it seems like this is all coming to be. All we can say it “YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!”

According to Variety, which broke the news, Villeneuve would likely direct the first film to come out of the franchise. When Legendary bought the rights to Frank Herbert’s novel, they said they wanted to spread it across multiple mediums. Seems like a Villeneuve movie would kick that off.

Villeneuve has shown an expert eye at science fiction just in the past few months. He released our favourite scifi film of the year, Arrival, and the trailer for the new Blade Runner looks incredible. And if Dune is literally his dream project? He’s sure to make it amazing.
