Virtually Travel Around Australia With Qantas’ New App

Expect to see this one on “money saving tips” lists. Care for a virtual holiday? Qantas has you covered. No guarantees it won’t make you want to book a flight though – since that’s basically what it is designed to do.

You get a first person view of a range of “experiences” including a view of a Qantas A380 jet from the tarmac and cockpit and a virtual tour of the airlines’ First Lounge at Los Angeles International airport. You can also explore Sydney’s Vivid Festival, Hamilton Island, Sydney Harbour, Kakadu National Park, The Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach.

Tempted? There’s a “book now” button right there in the app, so you can take it from virtual to reality.

Made in collaboration with Smart VR, the Qantas VR app is now available for iOS or Android and works with Google Cardboard, Samsung Gear VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive. No word on Daydream as yet. There are two modes to the app – split screen for those who have a compatible headset or Google Cardboard and 2D landscape for viewing directly on a smartphone.
