With the announcement that Disney is making a live-action version of Snow White, its first ever full-length animated movie, the studio has officially lapped itself.

If you want details, then there are songwriters and a scriptwriter attached. Ready? Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train) is in negotiations to write the script. Benj Pasek and Justin Pau (La La Land) are supposed to write brand new music to go with, presumably, “Heigh Ho”, the only song anyone really remembers from the original Snow White.
I’m actually mostly shocked that it took Disney this long to get to Snow White in its current “remake all the things into gritty, reimagined live-action movies”. Who would have thought Aladdin and Mulan would be further along in this transition than Snow White?
Anyway, I am, at this point, too tired to muster up any anger over this. Disney can do whatever it wants, obviously. I just wish it would stop remaking the same stuff over and over and focus on doing new stories. There just aren’t enough of those around these days.
