The news that Netflix was making a new version of Lost in Space was always only sort of interesting. It’s a show that’s ripe for a reboot in the landscape of turning old TV shows and movies into new TV shows and movies. But it’s also a property lacking anything more identifiable than a robot yelling, “Danger, Will Robinson!” Until now.

Because now it’s been announced that Parker Posey will play Dr Smith in the show. For those of you who don’t know, the original ’60s show followed a family called the Robinsons, and the non-related pilot, as they navigated an unknown area of space after sabotage throws their mission of course. Dr Smith is the one who sabotaged them but, oops, he also accidentally ended up along for the ride. Jonathan Harris played the role back then, gleefully imbuing every line with disdain and, often, exchanging banter with the robot.
I cannot wait to see Parker Posey do that. I literally cannot wait, I want it right now. I hope she’s every bit the large ham that Harris was. I hope she chews as much scenery as she did as the villain in Josie and the Pussycats. It’s going to be so beautiful, you guys, I think there’s a tear in my eye.
