The Major X-Men Villain Everyone Expected In Logan May Not Be There After All

Logan

The Wrap has a new report confirming several important pieces of casting for the film. Sienna Novikov will play the young girl in the poster, Laura — presumably Laura Kinney, AKA X-23, Wolverine’s clone in the comics (and current Wolverine herself). Meanwhile, Richard E. Grant is allegedly playing Dr Zander Rice, the scientist in charge of the project that created X-23 in the comics.

However, most interestingly, the site notes that despite the hints at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse — and despite hints from producer Simon Kinberg on the film’s audio commentary — longtime X-Men villain Mr Sinister is not in the movie, although that doesn’t rule out a post-credits appearance.

Alita: Battle Angel

Speaking of Apocalypse, Jubilee herself, Lana Condor, has joined the cast as Koyomi, an orphan who has links to several of the main characters in the manga. [Variety]

Bright

Lucy Fry has been cast in the human/orc buddy cop movie that is still sadly not called Orc Cops. She will play Tikka, an elf with magical powers who must be protected by Will Smith and Joel Edgerton’s characters.[THR]

Blade

Marvel movie mastermind Kevin Feige says that, despite recent talk emanating out of New York Comic-Con, the studio currently has no plans for Blade:

They did ask a long time ago and I think our answer was, ‘No, we’ll do something with Blade at some point.’ That’s still the answer. We still think he’s a great character. He’s a really fun character. We think this movie going into a different side of the universe would have the potential to have him pop up, but between the movies, the Netflix shows, the ABC shows there are so many opportunities for the character to pop up as you’re now seeing with Ghost Rider on AGENTS of S.H.I.E.L.D. that rather than team up with another studio on that character let’s do something on our own. What that is? Where that will be? We’ll see. There is nothing imminent to my knowledge.

Jurassic World 2

Colin Trevorrow revealed some plot details to Spanish news outlet El Mundo:

The dinosaurs will be a parable of the treatment animals receive today: the abuse, medical experimentation, pets, having wild animals in zoos like prisons, the use the military has made of them, animals as weapons.

Captain Marvel

Unsurprisingly — considering we knew it was going to change Carol’s comic origin — the film will be an origin story, according to Kevin Feige:

[Black] Panther is not really an origin story, since we saw him already in Civil War. But his standalone certainly introduces you to 99% of his world that you never saw. And Captain Marvel is certainly an origin. It’s an origin story from the start.

War for the Planet of the Apes

Director Matt Reeves talks about how the film connects to Planet of the Apes:

Because we know that that’s the ending, that it becomes Planet of the Apes, the cool thing about what was started in Rise is, that it’s no longer about what happens. It’s about how it happens. And stories about how are always about character and psychology. So in our minds, the idea that’s the end of the story gives us the chance to tell an epic saga that leads from where Caesar began in Rise to that world. It’s not about getting there and then redoing that story. We think it’s like a great Russian novel or something, and it’s all about following Caesar on that journey and the other apes as it builds along that way.

And you know the ending, but what you do know is also that the world is not that world. So how did it change? Caesar’s apes are not like the apes in the Planet of the Apes, right? They’re very brutal to the humans. That’s not what’s going on, so how did that happen? And you know that Cesar had such integrity, and that he has this sort of sense of right and wrong, of his morality, yet you watch that be challenged. He ends up having to kill one of his own. All of those things give us a chance to explore human nature and do it in a way that is really fun. ‘Cause these are all, frankly, totally new stories. We’re not doing any stories that were done.

Arrow

Vigilante Wild Dog may develop a relationship with Diggle, according to actor Rick Gonzalez:

I think Wendy Mericle mentioned not too long ago that Diggle was going to have a connection to Wild Dog. I thought it was really great and interesting that she brought it up, because I think if there would be anyone that Wild Dog would maybe even want to let his guard down or try to connect with, it would be John Diggle. Because throughout the entire show, he’s been the person who has the most reason and always spoke from his heart and who’s always been able to get his point across to every single character on the show. That type of energy, I think Wild Dog would respond well to.

Legends of Tomorrow

TV Line spoke to Marc Guggenheim about bringing the Legion of Doom to the show:

TVLINE | Turning to the Legion of Doom: Matt Letscher told me this won’t be a situation where Reverse-Flash, Captain Cold, Malcolm Merlyn and Damien Darhk are driving around together in a “Doom Buggy.”

No, no….

TVLINE | Is there a leader amongst them?

Yeah, I think there are four. [Laughs] That’s the fun part. We had a singular bad guy in Season 1, Vandal Savage, and his agenda was clear. Going back to that notion of mystery, each of our four Legion of Doom members have their own somewhat competing agendas.

TVLINE | Might we get Black Manta?

Not yet! But the reason we brought the JSA in is because the Legion of Doom’s plan is directly related to the fate of the JSA in the ’40s.

TVLINE | Will I at least get a helmet-in-a-swamp headquarters?

Uhhh, I don’t know…. [Laughs] I can’t tell you how hard it was just to find in Vancouver a brownstone to be our JSA headquarters. They were like, “What’s a brownstone?”

Sweet/Vicious

Here’s a synopsis for the show’s pilot episode, titled “The Blueprint”.

Jules Thomas (Eliza Bennett), the perfect sorority girl, balances her life of being a college student while also serving up vigilante justice on her school’s campus. With her sorority sister Kennedy (Aisha Dee) by her side it seemed like Jules had it all figured out. That is, until Ophelia Mayer (Taylor Dearden), a hell-raising, computer-hacking, weed-dealing trust fund baby who works at a record store has a chance encounter with her and realises Jules is more than meets the eye. As she starts to uncover the pieces, Ophelia’s law student best friend Harris, (Brandon Mychal Smith) grows increasingly concerned over her new private eye mentality. Under dire circumstances, the two girls come together and develop an unlikely friendship. Meanwhile, Jules meets charming art student Tyler (Nick Fink) at a party and instantly feels a spark, but it isn’t long before the girls realise that Tyler and Jules’ connection is more complicated than it seems. Dylan McTee also stars.
