One of the coolest things about the first Guardians of the Galaxy was how director James Gunn had Vin Diesel voicing Groot. The character has two lines so to bring in an actor with a voice and presence like Diesel gave everything gravitas. But, things may be changing for Vol. 2.
If you saw the first movie, you know that fully grown Groot is no more. By the time we rejoin the team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 the character will only be about 30cm tall. It would be odd to hear Diesel’s deep, booming voice coming out of such a small character, but it’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Odd is expected. Alas, Gunn took to Twitter to tease that Diesel’s voice may not be used as you’d expect in the film:

So it will be Diesel, but not his normal voice. Imagine Diesel pitching up his voice like a baby. It makes me laugh just thinking about it.
Side note, this is super awesome in case you missed it.
