Video: Adam Kalkin is an architect in New Jersey who found the smartest way to expand his home: Cover it in a bigger house. From the outside it looks like a giant shipping container. And that's pretty much what it is -- a 8m high prefab structure of metal and waxed concrete. Inside, the original 130-year-old cottage remains eerily preserved in what Kalkin described to Faircompanies as "a ship in a bottle type of thing". The hangar is so much larger than the original structure that he was able to install nine more rooms -- offices, bedrooms and a bathroom -- into one end.
Presumably if he ever needs even more space Kalkin can continue dropping increasingly larger hangars on top of the first one, though that threatens to send his family into Synecdoche, New York territory.
