The Department of Homeland Security is investigating the cyberattack on Leslie Jones, according to a report by the LA Times.
The Ghostbusters actress has been subject to a barrage of online harassment since July, after Breitbart tech blogger Milo Yiannopoulos incited his army of alt-right eggs to harass Jones on Twitter, ultimately resulting in Yiannopoulos getting banned from the social network.
Earlier this week, hackers posted nude photos of the star, along with her passport and driver’s licence to her personal website.
Now, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security, is looking into the matter. Previously, high profile hacks of celebrities — like last year’s “Fappening” — have been investigated by the FBI. No word on why ICE and not the FBI is looking into Jones’ case.
“The investigation is currently ongoing. In order to protect the integrity of the case, no further details are available at this time,” Rachel Yong You, an ICE spokeswoman, told Reuters.
Jones has stayed off social media since the attack, but many of her famous allies including Monica Lewinsky, Katy Perry and most notably, Hillary Clinton have shown support for her on Twitter.
