Video: Fourteen-year-old new girl in school Greta is already neck-deep in the petty horrors of adolescence when her totally embarrassing family decides to throw her a big birthday party... a fiasco so epic it sends the girl into a trippy, fantastical dream world that's even crazier than her reality. Many early reviews have already played spot-the-reference with Girl Asleep (Wes Anderson, Napoleon Dynamite, Alice in Wonderland, Where the Wild Things Are, The Mighty Boosh), but Rosemary Myers' film also looks like it has plenty of its own unique spark, too. The script is by Matthew Whittet, who penned the stage-play source material, and also plays the woefully underdressed father character.
Girl Asleep theatres on September 8.
