Oprah Winfrey is the first big name to join Ava DuVernay’s Disney film based on Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time, which is being adapted by Frozen‘s Jennifer Lee. This isn’t a huge surprise, really — Winfrey was in Selma, DuVernay’s highly-acclaimed previous feature, so it makes sense they’d team up again.

The Newbery Award-winning book, which was published in 1963 and has been a YA science fiction classic ever since, is about a trio of children, including siblings Meg and Charles Wallace, who travel through space and time to rescue their father from an evil disembodied brain creature, known as IT. Their guides through the ether are a strange but kind trio: Mrs Who, Mrs Which and Mrs Whatsit. Winfrey is slated to play Mrs Which.
