While we've all been distracted by Pokemon GO, Nintendo has been working on a new surprise for lovers of nostalgia.

The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition looks like a tiny version of the original, comes packed with 30 classic games, and will be hitting shelves in Australia on 10 November.

The $99.95 price tag will get you a classic styled controller, HDMI cable and USB cable along with the console. There's no AC power adapter included, unlike the US model.

Here is a list of the included games, which will now come with suspend points so you don't lose game progress (cheating, but whatever):

  • Balloon Fight
  • Bubble Bobble
  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
  • Donkey Kong
  • Donkey Kong Jr.
  • Double Dragon II: The Revenge
  • Dr. Mario
  • Excitebike
  • Final Fantasy
  • Galaga
  • Ghosts'N Goblins
  • Gradius
  • Ice Climber
  • Kid Icarus
  • Kirby's Adventure
  • Mario Bros.
  • Mega Man 2
  • Metroid
  • Ninja Gaiden
  • Pac-Man
  • Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
  • StarTropics
  • Super C
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Tecmo Bowl
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
  • You'll notice some of these are two player, so if you want to keep the classic styling going you'll need to pick up an extra Nintendo Classic Mini: NES Controller for $19.95. A Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro for the Wii console can also be used.

The controller can also be used to play Virtual Console NES games on a Wii U or Wii console by connecting to a Wii Remote controller.

What a time to be alive.

Pretty good value considering the price of all the games if bought via wii store. I'll buy this for sure! A power brick would be good though.

I took it they meant its usb powered so you could just get one of the 50 old phone chargers you have lying around or plug it into a spare port. I could be wrong though.

Is this really happening? It's not april fools is it?

It's definitely happening., had an email from Nintendo about it this morning with all the details!

Outside of Metroid, Super Mario Bros (series) and The Legend of Zelda there is nothing else I would play, wish they had some pre-loaded 8-bit Pokemon games on the system.

Where is the TMNT game (with THAT water level)?

Yes, I know Pokemon is a handheld and not around in NES days.

No pokemon thank god. Bubble bobble was awesome too and ghouls and ghosts. Played hours of those on c64.

'The Criminally Polluted Hudson River' - Urgh - so many hours wasted on those damn reeds.

all ready on pre order, not missing out on this one

Where do you pre-order it mate??

No power adapter? What sort of product excludes that!?

Definitely a strange decision to make for the UK and Australian model...

Aren't there tax implications for including USB power adapters in the EU now due to the excessive waste?

Is it USB powered? So you could just use an old phone charger.

Ever heard of the "New" 3ds?

omg, this is so amazing, i'm hyperventilating just reading that list. RETURN TO ME, CHILDHOOD!

Can it emulate other NES games or is it just to play the 30 that come with it?

This may be the best release of the year if this is legit!

Shut up and take my money! Best thing Nintendo has done in a very long time. It be good if you could use SD cards to expand storage and there was an Estore to buy more games.

Even better if it would play virtual console games you already own.

The packaging! The nostalgia is killing me. Definitely getting one for "someone else" for Xmas.

Here's hoping this is the first in a classic series and we get an N64 with hdmi at some stage!

Oh boy yes!. So much 007 and NBA Hang Time awaits to be played again.

Unfortunately even if they do an N64 one, I'd hold out zero hope of seeing 007. The licensing around that games too difficult, which reportedly is why it hasn't been offered either by MS or Nintendo on their respective stores while other Rare games have been.

After playing Mario 64 on my wii U I'm going to say meh. Zero effort into porting, control scheme is awful, and it gives me motion sickness. The only way to play n64 is on a CRT.

I have a mate with some $500 box he bought from Japan that goes between the console and the TV. Looks great.

What's the box? I don't think I could bring myself to spend $500 to clean up the signal on something I didn't pay that much for on launch day though :/

      Yes! I'm buying one!!

Say what? No "Sky Destroyer" and "Battle City"?

if you already have a back catalogue of cartridges dont forget about this

As per usual Australia and UK are getting the Royal screw job when it comes to electronics and gadgets.

How could they leave out Mario Kart and probably Bomberman. I grew up playing them, only ever played mario once or twice.

PLEASE PLEASE make a mini SNES also
