Google’s Next Version Of Android Is Called Nougat

After asking the sweet treat-eating public to help name the next version of its smartphone operating system, Google’s Android 7.0 ‘N’ now has an official name. And it’s Nougat.

Beating out other names like Nachos, Naan, Nectar and Navel Orange — and even Namey McNameface — Nougat was unveiled overnight as Google’s choice for the next iteration of its Android operating system, which has been in developer preview since March. We now also know the official version number for the next big upgrade from the current 6.0 Marshmallow major release — unsurprisingly, it’s 7.0.
