Microsoft’s sneaky pop-up trick seems to have done the job, with the latest news that Windows 10 is now the number one desktop operating system in Australia, North Europe and North America — overtaking Windows 7 in all three regions for the first time.
The takeover was announced in a tweet from Microsoft Edge web platform engineer David Storey yesterday.
Yesterday was the 1st day Win 10 was top OS by usage in North America (SC). Also 1st in North Europe & Australasia pic.twitter.com/c2oXiwziAy

With the free update ending on 31 July, this number is only expected to rise — and Microsoft have an install target of 1 billion.
