The TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods has added another star to its roster: Gillian Anderson. This isn’t the most shocking news ever, since Anderson previously worked with American Gods executive producer Bryan Fuller on the late, great Hannibal. But it is awesome news, because GILLAN ANDERSON!

According to Variety, Anderson will play a key role in the Starz series — and it sounds like a bit of a departure for the actress:
Anderson will play Media, the mouthpiece for the New Gods, functioning as their public face and sales representative, by taking the form of various iconic celebrities. She lives off the attention and worship that people give to screens — to their laptops, their TVs, to their iPhones in their hands while they watch their TVs. Ever the perky spokesperson, and always in control, she spins stories in whatever direction best suits her.
American Gods, which is due to premiere in 2017, will also star Ricky Whittle as protagonist Shadow Moon and Ian McShane as Mr Wednesday. Other cast members include Emily Browning, Pablo Schreiber, Cloris Leachman, Peter Stormare and Crispin Glover.
