Video: Not only is The Purge: Election Year timed for obvious political reasons, it’s also being released in the US the weekend of July 4 — just in case its satirical knife-twist wasn’t sharp enough already. This time, a senator who’s running for president based on an anti-purge platform is the top prize on you-know-which night.
Fortunately, former cop Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo, reprising his role from The Purge: Anarchy) happens to be her head of security, so at least the senator (played by Lost‘s Elizabeth Mitchell) has a fighting chance at survival. Or does she?
Is it just me, or have the Purge night costumes gotten even scarier? Isn’t it bad enough that you can slaughter whoever you want for 12 hours without dressing up like a grimy, freaky, patriotic clown to do it?
Like the previous two Purge films, The Purge: Election Year is written and directed by James DeMonaco. It comes out in Australia on July 14.
