The Cheapest Prices In Australia For NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080

The tech world has been waiting years for NVIDIA to release a GPU on the advanced 16nm process, and as of late yesterday evening Australian retailers were finally allowed to start selling them.

So here it is: a list of the cheapest places in Australia you can buy a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080.

This post was originally published on Kotaku.

Update, 31/5 9:30AM: The cheapest price for a 1080 is still $1179, but we’ve seen it at a lot more stores around Australia. Remember that you can always use StaticIce to find the most up-to-date prices on a new card. — Cam

If you want to be one of the first GTX 1080 adopters, chances are you’ll end up buying either Gigabyte or EVGA. They’re the two most stocked around Australia right now, although ASUS and MSI’s offerings will also be stocked by some retailers.

If you want the cheapest GTX 1080, then you’ll end up buying a EVGA or MSI model — although EVGA seems to be the most popular, with a lot of retailers selling out within minutes of orders opening. The cheapest price for a GTX 1080 is currently $1179, with a lot of retailers sticking to that price. If you’re interested, here’s all the cards and the major online retailers stocking them.

And not that it needs to be said, but stock is moving fast and cards may be sold out. I’ve noted the ones that were at the time of writing.

PC Case Gear

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1179
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1179

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1199
ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1199

The EVGA is sold out, but the other three were in stock at the time of writing. It’s also interesting to see that most of the large retailers are pricing around $1199, matching the information provided to me last week. Interesting to see a slight discount on the MSI board, though.

Phaser Computers

Gigabyte GTX1080 Nvidia Founder Edition Video Card: $1229

Phaser Computers isn’t one of the first brands you think of when it comes to tech, but this isn’t a half bad price for Gigabyte’s board. Maybe worth considering if you live really close to their store.

Computer and Parts Land

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 OC 8GB Founders Edition: $1299

Smaller retailers seem to be selling the Founders Edition GTX 1080’s for $1299, so no surprise here.

MWAVE

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1179
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1179

ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1199
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1199

MWAVE’s one of the larger retailers, but $1179 is the closest you’ll get to a GTX 1080 “special”.

Budget PC

EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition: $1299

StaticICE cached a listing before NVIDIA’s retailer embargo lifted last night, but the link was pulled offline and nothing was posted on Budget PC’s site after the pre-orders had gone live. Crackdown from the GPU giant, perhaps?

Scorptech Computers

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1179
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1179

ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1249
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1249

Scorptech coming in slightly higher than the other major retailers, except on the MSI and EVGA models.

MSY

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1299

MSY don’t look like they’re stocking other GTX 1080 models for now.

Umart Online

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1179
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1179

Asus GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1199
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1199

Umart’s website was under heavy load, but by the time you read this you should have no issues connecting.

Computer Alliance

Gigabyte GTX 1080 8GB Founders Edition: $1199
ASUS GTX 1080 8GB Founders Edition: $1199
MSI GTX 1080 8GB Founders Edition: $1199

Doesn’t matter the poison, it all costs the same.

PLE Computers

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1179
ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1199
Galax GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1199
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1199
ASUS ROG PG279Q + ASUS GTX980 Ti OR ASUS GTX 1080 Bundle: $2298

Intriguing bundle at the end: you get an ASUS ROG 27″ 144hz monitor with G-Sync and the best card on the market for $2300. The PG279Q sells for $1198 at most retailers, so you’re not really saving a great deal. You’d want to hope free shipping or something else was thrown in to sweeten the deal.

First Galax model I’ve seen from a local store as well, which is good to know.

CenterCom

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1199
ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1299
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB: $1299

Nothing really special here; smaller retailer, less chance of discounts. If you’ve got prior history buying from them, however, you’re not really losing out by picking up the MSI GTX 1080.

That’s all the prices available for now! If you see any more, let us know below. And tell us: will you be getting a GTX 1080, or will you wait for the GTX 1070, or AMD’s new Polaris chips instead?
