Despite the bloodbath of television cancellations last week, NBC is on a roll picking up new shows to fill the schedule in the second half of this year. Today, it picked up time travel drama Timeless.

We’ve been intrigued by Timeless and its premise since it was announced last year (simply titled Time): After a time machine is stolen by a master criminal, a scientist (Malcolm Barrett, Better Off Ted), a soldier (Matt Lanter, 90210) and history professor (Abigail Spencer, Rectify) team up and use a prototype machine to try and stop him, visiting critical events in American history.
The trailer for this looks like this could be a fun show, with some entertaining team dynamics, year-of-the-week adventures and a season-long mystery.
Timeless will be helmed by Eric Kripke (Supernatural, Revolution) and Shawn Ryan (Last Resort, The Shield), with Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones, Constantine) directing the pilot.
Time travel shows have become popular in the last couple of years, with Twelve Monkeys and Outlander each doing well with audiences. It will be interesting to see how this one stands apart, and where (or when?) the story takes us. [Deadline]
