Good news! (Or bad news, depending on how much you loved the British original.) Josh Schwartz’s long-in-the-works Americanisation of the awesome UK superhero series Misfits now has entered development once more, this time at Freeform, the channel very recently known as ABC Family.
The original Misfits ran between 2009 and 2013 in the UK, focusing on a group of teenage delinquents taking part in Community Service who got supernatural powers after a freak electrical storm. It was super unconventional, and its scrappy budgetary limitations only served to transform it into one of the most subversive and exciting pieces of sci-fi to come out of the UK in years.
The remake, helmed by Chuck writer/producer Josh Schwartz, has actually been in the works for a long while now — the idea was originally floated way back in 2011, but had seemingly fizzled out. Schwartz had actually teamed up with Misfits‘ creator Howard Overman,to write the Americanised version, but there’s no mention of him in this newest announcement. Make of that what you will.
