Huawei Releases A ‘Female Smartwatch’ For Females

Because we all know that 1: watches have genders and 2: women can’t wear man watches. Snark aside, it is a very pretty watch.

Huawei today announced the launch of two new smartwatch models, ‘Jewel’ and ‘Elegant’, the high fashion versions of their popular Android Wear watch. It is potentially a step in the right direction for smartwatches, which have to consider fashion far more than most mainstream gadgets. I just wish they would stop calling it a ‘female watch’.

The watch features a rose gold frame, one with Swarovski zirconia lining the 44mm sapphire crystal watch face and the other with a rose gold knurled pattern. The leather strap is available in both pearl white and sapphire blue. Huawei is also releasing the watch with ’10 exclusive feminine designs’ among its customisable watch faces

Like other Huawei Watches, the newly released smartwatches are powered by Android Wear, featuring a 1.4-inch touch-sensitive AMOLED watch face for simple interaction. It features everything you’d expect in a wearable — wireless Bluetooth connectivity, heart rate sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope and motion sensor — with fitness tracking capabilities such as the ability to distinguish between different types of physical activity.

The chic design and glitzy Swarovski crystals will cost you, however, with the Huawei Watch Jewel and Elegant both retailing for $699 — a bit of a markup from the $550 or so that the regular Huawei Watch costs. It will be available from April 20 at Myer, Harvey Norman and Huawei Kiosks nationally.
