An Alien Spends Human History Underground In This Beautiful Animated Short

What’s a peaceful alien to do on a planet full of people intent on killing each other? Hide. For decades and decades. That’s roughly the idea behind Zumbakamera’s Bendito Machine V, but it doesn’t quite do it justice.

The alien lands in what appears to be France and hides from conflict beneath a drawbridge. All of human history’s gruesome, repetitive, debauched exploits play out as our inhuman protagonist remains trapped beneath the Earth.

They’re not necessary to enjoy or understand Bendito Machine V, but the other four installments are available to watch on Vimeo and all feature the same beautifully sparse palette and detached view of human behaviour.

Maybe its time it’s time to start being a little nicer to each other.
