The Young Han Solo Movie Will Explain How He And Chewbacca Came To Be

Fans know very little about the 2018 Han Solo movie, except that it will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. But the CEO of Disney, Bob Iger, just dropped a key piece of information about a supporting character in the film. A very obvious, very tall, and very hairy supporting character.

“We have other [stand alone movies] in the works, including one which is an origin story about Han Solo and [Chewie],” Iger said according to The Wrap. “And that will come after Star Wars 8 in 2018. And then there will possibly more thereafter.”

On the surface, Chewbacca being in the film seems pretty obvious, but this is the first confirmation of his presence. In fact, beyond the fact that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has been quoted saying the young Solo will be played by an actor in his twenties, we hadn’t heard anything in regards to specifics in the movie. If Iger’s to be believed, we now know it will answer one of the biggest mysteries in the Star Wars canon: How did Han Solo and Chewbacca meet, and why is their bond so strong?

To be honest, this is one of those questions that never needed to be answered. They’re friends and partners. But it will kind of exciting to see exactly how it actually came together.

The currently untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story will be released 25 May 2018. Casting is currently underway.
