Every Doctor’s Business Card Should Have A Built-in Heart Rate Monitor

It’s now a standard feature on any fitness tracking wearable worth considering, but this is the first time someone has managed to squeeze a working ECG — or electrocardiograph — into something as thin and compact as a business card.

Unlike the heart rate monitors included on smartwatches and fitness trackers that use an LED and a tiny optical sensor to detect a wearer’s pulse, the MobilECG business card features two conductive finger pads to measure the electrical currents generated by the muscles in the heart.

As the card clearly states, it’s not quite accurate enough to be used to diagnose a heart problem, but imagine what an impression a doctor would make if this was the business card they handed out to patients.

Want one of your own? The creators are gauging public interest in the device on their site, which they expect to only cost around $US29 ($40) once it’s mass produced. Expensive for a business card, for sure, but not too pricey as a novelty and example of brilliant miniature engineering.
