Wendy’s In The US Is Investigating A Credit Card Data Attack

Been eating at Wendy’s? You might want to check your credit card statements: the restaurant chain has admitted that it’s investigating a credit card data breach.

Speaking to Krebs on Security, Bob Bertini from Wendy’s explained that:

We have received this month from our payment industry contacts reports of unusual activity involving payment cards at some of our restaurant locations. Reports indicate that fraudulent charges may have occurred elsewhere after the cards were legitimately used at some of our restaurants.

Wend’s has hired a cybersecurity firm to carry out an investigation. While Bertini said that the incident occurred “late last year,” it’s currently unclear how long it lasted, whether it’s halted, or which restaurants were actually affected.

That said, bank industry sources that Krebs spoke with told him that incidents appeared to have occurred in the United States’ midwest and east coast. Time to eat a burger and forget about the real world for a few minutes.
