This LG Robot Ball Thing Is Insane

Let's talk about balls for a second. They're super handy. They have done a lot for humans. And because of spherical objects, we have sports and automobiles. Heck -- even the Earth is a giant ball.

But LG just took ball technology to the next level.

It's called the LG Rolling Bot, and it's like Star Wars BB-8 droid mated with a cat toy. This super ball is just one of many accessories designed with the LG G5 in mind, and it's easily the most insane of the bunch.

Using the G5 device manager, the G5 turns into a remote that can control the ball ANYWHERE ON THE PLANET as long you're connected to the internet. It has a camera that can record footage, a speaker so you can speak with a human or pet, and it even has an IR blaster so you can turn on your TV. Of course, the epitome of ball opulence is an included laser pointer so you can play with (or torment) your cat or dog.

All the hardware is placed in the center stripe while the two large hemispheres are the engine that can turn in any direction. It's tricky to use, so there is a bit of a learning curve. The thing also can't go incredibly fast, which is probably for the best since it's already difficult to figure out what you're doing using just the G5's display for navigation.

LG isn't sharing any info on pricing yet, but this is either coolest or most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. I honestly can't decide. All I know for sure is that it's ballsy.

So you're telling me I can use this thing to look up dresses? Sold.

I don't know, I need a robot that can grab a V can from the fridge, take the trash out and check the letter box, now that would be useful, looking up dresses, that I can do myself...

If I can set a path and a schedule so this thing acts like a watchman and returns to a charging station automatically when power is low or at my command then I'd be sold on one of these.

LG can go play with its balls. Someone forward thinking needs to focus on practical domestic robots.
There is a massive untapped market that manufacturers should be busting to get in to. If I could get a capable robot (not Pepper or NAO) to carry out simple domestic chores...

im sick of the heresy this site totes. the earth is clearly NOT round....

Yeah I liked that little dig at conspiracy theorists ;)

I think that depends on from which angle you're observing it.
